In this booklet, you will find seven simple exercises that can quickly and effectively improve your voice significantly. These are the kinds of exercises that professional actors and singers use as a warm-up before stepping onto the stage to perform.

The exercises should be seen as an introduction to any kind of vocal expression – whether you're singing or speaking in front of a group or a larger audience. They are designed to relax the muscles in your face and around your neck. By practising these exercises, you can also help strengthen your lung function. In addition, working with your body and breathing will increase your awareness of your own physical presence.

Instructions and images will make it easy for you to continue practising the exercises on your own – or preferably together with a couple of classmates. If you do these exercises twice a week, I bet that over time, you'll 
breathe better and your voice will become more free. An added bonus is that the training will give you more energy and a greater sense of well-being in your everyday life.

 

About the author
Mikkel H. Lund originally trained as an actor in England and is now based in Copenhagen. His career spans more than 25 years across theatre, film, television, and commercials. Born with cerebral palsy (CP), he uses an electric wheelchair in his daily life. Alongside his pursuit of acting roles, he has founded a coaching business called ”Tag Plads i Verden” (Take Your Place in the World), where he helps people with CP – who may have unclear speech and body language – to become more aware of their bodies, so they can gain better control over them.
